The Physical Literacy Environment

     While I was in grade school my literacy environment was not any different than any regular classroom. How did this make me feel while I was reading? I wasnt totally relaxed or impressed by the effort to make the student comfortable enough to read. Though I had a few teachers that would set a day apart for us to have a reading day where this day would be a relaxed reading day with our blankets and pillows. Apart from special days like this there were never a time that I went to school and felt comfortable enough to read in a desk. In fact I remember many times that I would say to myself 'yeah i am just going to wait till I get home to try to read this book.' Then I got home and didnt always read, but the reason I wanted to wait was because I knew I could get comfortable at home. 

    I think most teachers are going to be challenged in the area of finding room in their room to create a reading space. I also think teachers are going to be hesitant to put a reading space due to expected classroom behavior. I also think that some teachers are going to guniuinely struggle with making a space comfortable enough for students to read but to also think. 

    To combat these few challenges I already have a lot of ideas for any classroom, I think for students who struggle to behave in a space like this it is important to give other choices and provide flexible seat that they can pull out. Teachers can find room in their classroom by eliminating large furniture in the classroom that take up unwanted space and trade it with more flexible options. Also to provide a good relaxed enviroment and thinking environment its important to think about your lighting in the classroom as well as what you have on the wall in specific areas of the classroom.
